Activities within WP 1 – MANAGEMENT AND COORDINATION
We conducted another two partner meetings (in May in Oslo and in June in Kočevje). Partners had a number of bilateral meetings in order to coordinate joint project activities that were based on a detailed operational work plan. In May partners also signed a Partnership Agreement. In July Adult education centre Kočevje signed the Agreement with the Government office for development and European cohesion policy.
Activities within WP 2 – INFORMATION AND PUBLICITY
News on the project activities are published on the project website zdravje-romov.si and on Facebook profile on a weekly basis. We have organized several media events, for example event of the certification of new Roma coordinators. In June we started to carry out promotional activities such as vegetarian picnic in Roma settlement and in September sharing of toothbrushes and toothpastes for Roma families. Within the project activities several Roma families started to process their vegetable gardens (in Roma settlements Griček pri Željnah and Brezje).
There have been more than 15 articles published about the project so far; in the local media (Radio Univox, Radio Krka, Časnik Kočevska, TV Kočevje), regional media (Dolenjski list, Vaš kanal) and national media (Radio Slovenija 1, TV Slovenija 1: Broadcasts So vakeres?/Kaj govoriš? and Slovenska Kronika).
We informed members of the Roma community, representatives of municipalities, Centres for social work, health care centers, Employment services, prisons and the juvenile correctional home In Dob and in Novo mesto and Roma associations.
Activities within WP 3 – DEVELOPMENT AND TESTING OF PROGRAMMES
Adult education Centre Kočevje has prepared 70-hour training program for Roma coordinators that served as base for implementation of the program in two groups (one in Kočevje and the other in Novo mesto). During the programme representatives of public and humanitarian institutions that support the work of Roma coordinator (Red Cross, Karitas Charity, Centre for social work, …) have participated. We helped future Roma coordinators gather the necessary documents for their portfolio.
All candidates (seven in Novo mesto and five in Kočevje) have successfully completed the training and have acquired an official national vocational qualification of “Roma coordinator”. Two Roma coordinators cooperate in the implementation of the SORO project activities, others have found employment elsewhere or they perform their new profession as volunteers.
Program Health beneficial food has already been concluded in Kočevje and is still running in Novo mesto. Program Health care of Roma preschool children and program Promotion of a healthy lifestyle to prevent addictions among Roma are currently being carried out.
Presentation of the health care system and health insurance for Roma people was organized in Novo Mesto in June. The four-hour program included a practical presentation of the Health Insurance Institute, health care center and a hospital. The Training for medical staff and experts is in preparation.
Activities within WP 4 – PROGRAMME DEVELOPMENT AND TESTING FOR PROVIDING THE ACCESS TO HEALTH SERVICES
Health care centers of Kočevje and Novo mesto have started with field work in May – visits of medical personnel in Roma settlements. The preventive examinations have been done for the review of health conditions. Efforts were also put in presenting possible changes in lifestyle to achieve better health among Roma people. These activities were implemented with help of Roma coordinators from Adult Education Centre Kočevje and Roma association Romano Veseli.
Activities within WP 5 – PREPARATION OF PROPOSALS FOR SYSTEMIC CHANGES IN THE FIELD OF TACKLING HELATH INEQUALITIES BETWEEN USER GROUPS
Municipality of Novo mesto officially appointed twelve members of The Regional Council for Health of Roma. They are gathering reference material and developing a detailed work program of the Council.
Activities within WP 6 – EVALUATION
The external evaluator provided an evaluation report on the cooperation between partners. They have also prepared an analysis of the questionnaires by contractors of programs Health beneficial food and Health care of Roma preschool children. Also an analysis of the questionnaires for participants of the program Roma coordinator has been done.
