Activities within WP 1 – MANAGEMENT AND COORDINATION

We conducted another two partner meetings (in May in Oslo and in June in Kočevje). Partners had a number of bilateral meetings in order to coordinate joint project activities that were based on a detailed operational work plan. In May partners also signed a Partnership Agreement. In July Adult education centre Kočevje signed the Agreement with the Government office for development and European cohesion policy.

Activities within WP 2 – INFORMATION AND PUBLICITY

News on the project activities are published on the project website zdravje-romov.si and on Facebook profile on a weekly basis. We have organized several media events, for example event of the certification of new Roma coordinators. In June we started to carry out promotional activities such as vegetarian picnic in Roma settlement and in September sharing of toothbrushes and toothpastes for Roma families. Within the project activities several Roma families started to process their vegetable gardens (in Roma settlements Griček pri Željnah and Brezje).

There have been more than 15 articles published about the project so far; in the local media (Radio Univox, Radio Krka, Časnik Kočevska, TV Kočevje), regional media (Dolenjski list, Vaš kanal) and national media (Radio Slovenija 1, TV Slovenija 1: Broadcasts So vakeres?/Kaj govoriš? and Slovenska Kronika).

We informed members of the Roma community, representatives of municipalities, Centres for social work, health care centers, Employment services, prisons and the juvenile correctional home In Dob and in Novo mesto and Roma associations.

Activities within WP 3 – DEVELOPMENT AND TESTING OF PROGRAMMES

Adult education Centre Kočevje has prepared 70-hour training program for Roma coordinators that served as base for implementation of the program in two groups (one in Kočevje and the other in Novo mesto). During the programme representatives of public and humanitarian institutions that support the work of Roma coordinator (Red Cross, Karitas Charity, Centre for social work, …) have participated. We helped future Roma coordinators gather the necessary documents for their portfolio.

All candidates (seven in Novo mesto and five in Kočevje) have successfully completed the training and have acquired an official national vocational qualification of “Roma coordinator”. Two Roma coordinators cooperate in the implementation of the SORO project activities, others have found employment elsewhere or they perform their new profession as volunteers.

Program Health beneficial food has already been concluded in Kočevje and is still running in Novo mesto. Program Health care of Roma preschool children and program Promotion of a healthy lifestyle to prevent addictions among Roma are currently being carried out.

Presentation of the health care system and health insurance for Roma people was organized in Novo Mesto in June. The four-hour program included a practical presentation of the Health Insurance Institute, health care center and a hospital. The Training for medical staff and experts is in preparation.

Activities within WP 4 – PROGRAMME DEVELOPMENT AND TESTING FOR PROVIDING THE ACCESS TO HEALTH SERVICES

Health care centers of Kočevje and Novo mesto have started with field work in May – visits of medical personnel in Roma settlements. The preventive examinations have been done for the review of health conditions. Efforts were also put in presenting possible changes in lifestyle to achieve better health among Roma people. These activities were implemented with help of Roma coordinators from Adult Education Centre Kočevje and Roma association Romano Veseli.

Activities within WP 5 – PREPARATION OF PROPOSALS FOR SYSTEMIC CHANGES IN THE FIELD OF TACKLING HELATH INEQUALITIES BETWEEN USER GROUPS

Municipality of Novo mesto officially appointed twelve members of The Regional Council for Health of Roma. They are gathering reference material and developing a detailed work program of the Council.

Activities within WP 6 – EVALUATION

The external evaluator provided an evaluation report on the cooperation between partners. They have also prepared an analysis of the questionnaires by contractors of programs Health beneficial food and Health care of Roma preschool children. Also an analysis of the questionnaires for participants of the program Roma coordinator has been done.

Activities within WP 1 – MANAGEMENT AND COORDINATION

Activities within the work package 1 began on 27th February 2015. We have organized and carried out the first meeting of project partners (kick-off meeting) and the first working meeting of the project teams. Partners had a number of bilateral meetings in order to coordinate joint activities. The lead partner has provided assistance in developing project teams in partner’s organizations and helped with the beginning of work on the project. Lead partner has produced a detailed operational work plan. We also prepared a Partnership Agreement.

Activities within WP 2 – INFORMATION AND PUBLICITY

At the beginning of the project we created a Facebook profile which has been regularly updated with news about current project activities. We chose an external contractor to create a project website. We organized the first press conference which was featured on the regional TV.
Slovenian partners published information about the project on their websites. They informed the target groups about the project through Centre for social work, Employment service, Roma associations and through visits of Roma settlements. We have created a logo for the project, produced a leaflet and promotional billboard.

Activities within WP 3 – DEVELOPMENT AND TESTING OF PROGRAMMES

We started preparing a training programme for Roma coordinators in order to provide a regular link between the institutions and target Roma group. Adult education Centre Kočevje and Development and education centre Novo mesto motivated potential participants. Adult education Centre Kočevje began with the implementation of the programme in April.
Project partners agreed on the content and course of the first program – Training for medical staff and experts, which is expected to start in September.

Activities within WP 4 – PROGRAMME DEVELOPMENT AND TESTING FOR PROVIDING THE ACCESS TO HEALTH SERVICES

Health care centers of Kočevje and novo mesto have collaborated to prepare a detailed plan of medical health care. They prepared questionnaires and forms for collecting data of the project management and progress.
Association Romano Veseli from Novo mesto began working on the field with Roma people before the visits of medical staff. With their help It is easier to perceive their needs and partly influence the attitude to health. Adult education centre Kočevje also came in contact with families that will be visited or examined by Health care centre Kočevje.

Activities within WP 5 – PREPARATION OF PROPOSALS FOR SYSTEMIC CHANGES IN THE FIELD OF TACKLING HELATH INEQUALITIES BETWEEN USER GROUPS

We started developing a Regional Council for Health of Roma people. We created a list of potential members of the Council and a detailed work program of the Council. The Council has started to work informally. Official designation and convening the first session is proceeding.

Activities within WP 6 – EVALUATION

We prepared the first questionnaire about the health of Roma people which will be used for fieldwork. We began the process of selecting the external evaluator for the preparation of questionnaires and conducting evaluation of the project.
